In 'Circular', as part of Melbourne Design Week 2024, Daniel Boddam’s furniture pieces explore the transformational potential of waste materials gleaned from construction sites and the fashion industry. Boddam finds beauty in the remnants, repurposing them into refined sculptural and functional objects. In turn, he challenges the production norms of luxury commodities and where we find and attribute “value”. Here, we see how the Wave Sofa has been refashioned into a one-off piece for the exhibition.
For ‘Circular’, Daniel Boddam Studio has reimagined the Wave Sofa by ingeniously refashioning fabrics that are usually discarded or left to accumulate on factory floors.
This limited edition Wave Sofa is a testament to the beauty and functional potential of repurposed materials. For the sofa's backing, a Carla Zampatti deadstock reversible coat fabric has been repurposed to luxurious effect. The seat cushion is crafted from Textilia Flanders tapestry fabric – the remnants from a vintage sofa re-covering project.
The playful and experimental combination of materials result in a highly refined and functional piece that offers an alternative way to define luxury.
